Potato Gratin

I wanted to try baking something new, with the things I had on hand, and needs fewer ingredients. This is a French recipe, where sliced potatoes are baked in cream and milk. I've got to admit, I was skeptical at first, but after taking a bite of it, I decided to add it to my recipe list.

Ingredients:

Potato-5-6
Milk- 500ml
Amul cream-100gms
Cheddar cheese-200gms
Garlic-3 small cloves(crushed)
Butter-60gms
Flour-2tbs
Nutmeg-1/2 tsp(powdered)
Parsley-1 tsp

Directions:

  • Peel the potatoes and thinly slice them. Boil this till its tender and soft.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter.
  • Add the flour till a paste is formed.
  • Slowly add milk and cream. Bring it to boil, switch off the flame
  • Add thyme, crushed garlic, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  • Grease the baking dish and layer it with potato slices and pour half of the white sauce then layer the rest of the potato and pour the rest of the sauce.
  • In Preheated oven, bake for 30 mins at 230 degree Celsius
  • Top with cheddar cheese and bake for 10 mins more.
Tips:

  • Thinner the slice of the potatoes, the faster it takes time to cook.
